Poker Coaching - A Big Rise in Demand

Many people forget that until around the year 2000 poker was a game in decline with an aging demographic and many casinos closing poker rooms due to a lack of demand.

Many people forget that until around the year 2000 poker was a game in decline with an aging demographic and many casinos closing poker rooms due to a lack of demand. However with the advent of the internet poker was given a new lease of life in 1998 when poker rooms like Planet poker began offering real money play online and aggressively promoting online poker therefore ultimately changing that fate of poker for years to come.

With the explosion of online poker and the subsequent growth of the online poker community, it should come as no surprise that the level of online poker play has increased dramatically as players compete against one another for biggest pots. As a by-product of the online poker explosion and the introduction of satellite events Live Poker has experienced a boom, with many online players now testing their abilities in live tournaments and events.

All in all many would argue that the glory days of online poker have helped prop up a declining game and successfully popularised a once clandestine sport, with poker now being widely publicised in many films, TV programs and other media. This has done wonders for the game and resurrected a once dying sport, however with such rapid growth there have come changes to the game and poker has evolved from a game played in smoky casino backrooms into a game with pot odds and equity calculations. Aside from the enhancement of the game and the level of play, many side businesses have grown up to provide support and services to online and Live Poker players.

One such business has come about with the introduction of specialised poker coaching websites which offer players a number of coaching aids ranging from 1 to 1 coaching with current professional players to forum support threads.

Some would argue that the influx of poker coaching and poker tutorial material is the natural progression of the game and that the resultant hardening of games is good and healthy for poker as whole as the game gets taken to new unseen levels of play.

On the other hand many poker players now have to spend much more of their time learning the game and spending more money on coaching than they once did in order to keep pace with the fast developing game. Poker coaching has done much for the general level of poker and raised the level of gameplay across the board, however many fear that the spiralling costs of constant coaching and other poker services have driven many smaller amateur players out of the game as the do not have the time or money to keep their game up to speed. In this respect some would argue that the subsequent increase in the level of game difficult has effectively dried up poker with the games becoming too challenging for grinders to make a living and poker coaching turning fish into regs.

In conclusion poker coaching and the development of poker as a result of effective coaching and the online poker boom back in the early 2000's have helped take poker from the back of the casino and out of the sitting rooms of middle aged men and put it on the front of newspapers, with both online and live games benefitting.
